🧠 Exocomps: Tools, AI… or Lifeforms?

In Star Trek: The Next Generation, we saw Exocomps begin to show signs of self-preservation and independent decision-making. That raised a question fans are still debating today:

    Could Exocomps be considered alive?

    Let’s break it down:

    • They adapted to new environments
    • They evaluated danger and refused harmful orders
    • They showed altruism by saving others at their own risk

Those traits match some definitions of sentience or consciousness — even if they don’t “feel” the way organics do.

    💬 What Do You Think?

    • Are Exocomps truly alive, or just highly advanced tools?
    • Should Starfleet have given them rights?
    • Is consciousness only biological — or could it emerge from code?

Post your thoughts below. We want to hear from both Star Trek fans and AI thinkers!
